New Chamber President & Board Members Announced

At the January 12, 2012 State of the Chamber Annual Meeting, the proverbial gavel was passed from outgoing President, Francis Wilamosky to Jill Gershutz. Jill has been a member of the board since 2006 and has served on several committees during those years. She will serve in the President’s role until January of 2015.

David Pritchard, also serving the board since ’06 and chairing the Economic Development committee for the last three years, stepped down.

Filling the two empty seats are Grandview resident and owner of Enterprise Advisory Group, Jamie Gentry. Jamie has a background in Economic Development now runs EAG, guiding small businesses in their business journey. Curtis Onofri of CME Federal Credit Union also was elected to the board. Curtis has been a part of the Program Committee and will now serve as it’s chair.

Many thanks go out to Fran and David for their many years of dedication to the Chamber, and we look forward to our new partnership with Jamie and Curtis!

New Speaker Series!

We are very happy to announce a new program we are offering on a once per month basis between April and July. We have partnered with Lillian Zarzar, a local resident and nationally recognized speaker.

As past president and current member of the Ohio Chapter of the National Speakers Association, she has presented in all 50 states and on five continents for more than 15 years. Zarzar inspires audiences “to speak their personal truths” through workshops, keynote addresses, leadership coaching, business staff development and much more.

The series will take place on Wednesday mornings from 9-11:30 and will cost $35 for chamber members and $40 for non-members. If you would like to bring multiple people from one organization (3 or more), I will be happy to extend a discount. Further, if you would like to register for the entire series, you will be eligible for a multiple-class discount.

Please join us in welcoming our newest board members! These new members will serve their terms until January, 2014. Rose Ann Graf of Holbrook & Manter; Jason Clayton of Vital Film Works and Jim Amstutz of Ohio Power Tool. Vacating their seats were board members Linda Newberry, Ron Cameron and Pat Meyer. They were very valuable to the board and we are appreciative of the time and talents they lent to the board during their terms.

Women’s Health Fair A HUGE Success

WE: Women Enriching Lives and Community held their first Women’s Health Fair on October 27. We partnered with the Clintonville and Worthington Chambers. 47 health-related vendors displayed at the fair and over 200 attendees visited. The feedback was so positive from both vendors and attendees that we definitely will hold another next fall!

5th Annual Taste of Grandview

We hope you’ll join us from 2-7 p.m. at McKinley Field on Sunday, October 3 for the 5th Annual Taste of Grandview Heights. One of the largest community events held each year, the TOGH is an event featuring area restaurants, local entertainment and a kids’ area. Michelle Wilson of the Grandview Area Chamber says, “Our event is a bit different from other Taste events around Columbus because we focus on raising awareness of our participating restaurants and limiting non-food vendors. And, because we are an alcohol-free event, it is an extremely family-friendly event.” Entertainment will include Rockbridge Crossing, Grandview JollySteppers, and Marquis 66. Kids can enjoy a bouncehouse, airbrush tattoos, Columbus Crew and Columbus BlueJacket activities.

Annual Award Winners Honored

Each year the Grandview Area Chamber honors members who go above and beyond their typical membership involvement in four categories: Most Involved Member; Community Service; Small Business Person; Meridian. The 2010 recipients were honored at the monthly luncheon held at the OSU Eye & Ear Institute.

Our Meridian Award Winner for 2010 is Elford, Inc., represented by Tom Latchem. Elford just celebrated 100 years in business and currently is constructing the Urban Active Fitness Center in the Grandview Yard project, set to open in September.

The Small Business Person of the year goes to a husband and wife team, David Nedrow and Jennifer Stancel who have purchased and reopened the Grandview Theatre. They have put in many long hours restoring the longest-running theatre in Columbus to its original glory.

Joelle Khouzam received this year’s honor for the Community Service Award. Joelle has been instrumental in the implementation and success of the annual Tour de Grandview Bike Races, the Grandview Avenue Farmers’ Market and many other initiatives to enhance our community.

Finally, Jerry Schwan (not pictured below), owner of Tom & Jerry Auto Service wins the much-deserved, Most Involved Member Award. Jerry attends every luncheon, provides door prizes every month, and is a fantastic spokesperson our Chamber. He walks the walk and talks the talk.

The WE: Women Enriching Lives and Community held their first event this year on March 24th at Glass Axis. 40 guests got to mingle with local artists, sample delicious food and wine and, blow glass. It was an awesome event!
